Services
Parkano public library is open for all. You can borrow books, audiobooks, magazines, CDs, movies and more. The borrowing period is generally four weeks, excluding movies and digital games, which have a two-week period.
Borrowing is free of charge unless the customer reserves material from other libraries. Material borrowed from Parkano library can be returned at any other public library in Pirkanmaa and vice versa without extra cost. If material isn’t returned in time, the delay fee is 0.20€ per day and 1.00€ for a one-time notification (by email or letter) for each item. Material for children and teenagers is excluded from the daily fee.
You can read books as well as various newspapers and magazines in the library. You can also access a computer for free without a library card. Printing costs 0.20€ per page and copying 0.50€ per page.
The tourist info also operates in the library. The info offers magazines, leaflets and maps about events and sights in Parkano and nearby cities and towns. You can ask the library staff for more directions and advice.
Art displays among others as well as various events are held in the library. Announcements can be found on the library home page and the local paper Ylä-Satakunta.
The library card
Parkano public library is part of PIKI-libraries, a system of collaboration between public libraries in Pirkanmaa. A PIKI library card can be used in all public libraries in Pirkanmaa. The library card is free and is granted in the library. The customer must present a valid passport or other official photographic ID to receive a library card. If the customer doesn’t reside permanently in Finland, a temporary card can be issued.
PIKI net library
PIKI-libraries have a common net library service at https://piki.verkkokirjasto.fi/web/arena/welcome. The service can be used to renew loans (up to five times and only if there are no reservations for the material), make reservations and search for material. You can log in to the net library with your library card number and a four-digit PIN code, which you can assign to the card while visiting a library.
